Media highlights: New allegations of sexual abuse by MINUSCA peacekeepers

On February 4, the UN's peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), MINUSCA, announced at least seven new victims of alleged sexual abuse by UN peacekeepers in Bambari, indicating the accused troops were from the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Human Rights Watch, the NGO which uncovered the abuses, issued its own detailed statement the same day. This came less than a week after a series of allegations of sexual abuse by UN and other international peacekeepers serving in CAR were announced by the UN in New York and Geneva.
